PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. -- A traffic stop south of Palatka resulted in three individuals going to jail for more than speeding.

A Florida Highway Patrol trooper pulled a car over for going 90 miles per hour in a posted 60 mile per hour zone shortly after 10 a.m. October 19 on State Road 19, according to a news release from FHP.

When the trooper questioned the 3 men inside the rental car, the release said the men were acting nervously.  FHP called for backup from the Putnam County Sheriff's Office after the three continued their irregular behavior.

The release said once PCSO deputies arrived at the traffic stop, they advised the car and the 3 men had just been involved in a home invasion robbery off of County Road 310.

Police pulled the men out of the vehicle to conduct a search.  While looking through the car, police found a felonious amount of marijuana and oxycodone.  The release said the drugs were prepared for distribution.

Deputies arrested the 3 men, identified as 19-year-old Jeremy Melton, 22-year-old Gerald Owens Jr., and 19-year-old Allen Ferguson, on drug charges and for burglary to an occupied dwelling, which the release notes happened just prior to the traffic stop.
