ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The St. Augustine Bridge of Lions will be closed Friday, September 28 so crews can make water line repairs.

The closure will take place over night Thursday and during the day Friday so crews can perform necessary water line repairs. The repair work is being done under the roadway at the base of the western approach to the bridge.

The bridge was closed for a period of time Wednesday due to an issue with the tail locks.

On Thursday night, only one lane of traffic will be closed. Vehicles will be allowed to cross in alternating directions.

On Friday night, the bridge will be closed to traffic in both directions.

The lane closures on both nights last from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. the following morning.

The closure schedule is as follows:

  • Thursday, September 27, from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. on Friday, September 28. One lane of traffic will be open in alternating directions.
  • Friday, September 28 from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. on Saturday, September 29. Bridge will be closed to all traffic in both directions.
The ornamental gates on the bridge are also undergoing repair for the next two months. The work started on Sept. 13. The gates were damaged when a motorist collided into them on Aug. 1.
