LAKE CITY, Fla. -- Deputies with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office arrested a burglary suspect after an extensive search Tuesday.
On Monday, a burglary occurred to a business where several vehicle batteries were stolen, according to a news release from Columbia County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Sergeant Ed Seifert.
Police learned 21-year-old Cody Dover had sold some of the batteries to a local recycling business.
After Dover was identified, Seifert said deputies began searching for the man.
On Tuesday afternoon, a vehicle Dover is known to use was spotted at the intersection of NW Taft and NW Cheswick Street in Lake City.
Seifert said Dover was a passenger in the vehicle and had fled on foot.
Sheriff's Office deputies, K-9 units from the Columbia County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Department of Corrections were called in to help search for Dover.
Seifert said the K-9 units tracked Dover for six hours in the area of County Road 25A and U.S. 41 North.
At 10:20 p.m., over six hours since he was seen riding in the vehicle, Dover was located in a wooded area off U.S. 41 North.
Dover was arrested without incident, Seifert said, and taken to the Columbia County Detention Facility.
Dover faces charges of dealing in stolen property. Seifert said additional charges are likely as they continue their investigation. Dover is being held in the jail on $11,000 bond.
