JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- On Tuesday, Shyheim Morris was found guilty of possession of a firearm on school grounds and aggravated assault.

Morris was 17 when he was arrested in June of 2011 for bringing a gun to Wolfson High School, according to a news release from the State Attorney's Office. Morris, who was a student at the school at the time, gave the gun to another student. That student then used the gun in an armed robbery.

After that student gave the gun back to Morris, he brought it on campus again.

When police were close to catching him, the release said, Morris pulled the slide of the gun back and then pointed it at an unarmed security guard. The guard was close to apprehending Morris.

Morris fled from the school, but was later caught by deputies with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

"This defendant made a dangerous choice to bring a loaded handgun to school and assist another student in an armed robbery. When faced with another choice after being cornered by an unarmed security guard, he chose to use that gun to threaten a life in the hope of escaping instead of accepting responsibility for his actions," said Assistant State Attorney Alex King, who tried the case with Assistant State Attorney Steve Siegel.

Morris is scheduled to be sentenced September 21. He faces ten years in prison.
