JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --  A puppy attacked during a family beach outing on Sunday is back home playing with his best friend, 7 year-old Delani Rose Folson.

"Woofi" is missing a right front leg following a surgery that the veterinarian described as touch and go. The bill for the emergency care was $1,500.

"There are a lot of good people out there in the community," said Sheila Folson, who reached out for help to pay the bill and bring "Woofi" back home.

A huge response from the community made it happen, with people donating to help out, Folson said.

"The bill has been paid. There is a surplus," said Folson, who says the surplus will be used to set up a fund to help other pet owners who face unexpected expenses due to something like what happened to "Woofi."

According to Jacksonville Beach police department reports, the family pet was attacked by a pit bull that was not on a leash.

Investigators have a good idea who owns the pit bull since a witness to the attack followed the men home who left with the dog.

Delani Rose Folson is just happy to have her puppy home, saying he gets around just fine, even if just on three legs.
