BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- A 54-year-old Kingsland man was sentenced July 19 to ten years in federal prison for distribution of child pornography.

George McKee was sentenced by United District Court Judge Lisa Godbey Wood. After McKee is released from prison, he will also face 20 years of supervised release, according to a news release from the United States Attorney's office.

Mckee was employed in 2009 by a security services contractor at Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, Georgia. According to the release, while he was there, McKee engaged in sexually suggestive chats and distributed child pornography via an internet website.

Law enforcement began their investigation into McKee in January of 2011 after he was identified by an ongoing undercover operation to locate and identify individuals actively exchanging and distributing child pornography, according to a news release from Kingsland Police Department Public Information Officer Lieutenant Todd Tetterton.

The Kingsland Police Department, Naval Criminal Investigative Service and members of the Immigration and Customer Enforcement agency investigated the child porn allegations against McKee.

In June 2011 a search warrant was served at McKee's home. During the search, numerous computer components and media storage items were taken as evidence.

McKee was charged July 13, 2011 and was taken then into federal custody.

In addition to McKee's arrest, conviction and sentence, another Kingsland man was arrested on charges related to possession of child pornography.

Thomas Mumford, 26, was investigated by the Kingsland Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Mumford was identified by the same investigative methods used to identify McKee, Tetterton said.

On July 19, the same day McKee was sentenced, a search warrant was served at Mumford's home in Kingsland.

Mumford was arrested and charged with two counts of a violation of federal code for the distribution of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. Tetterton said both charges are state and federal felonies. Federal law enforcement officers are still investigating the case against Mumford.

"The targeting of individuals who victimize children and the elderly will remain one of the highest priorities of the Kingsland Police Department and we will work tirelessly to bring these perpetrators to justice," said Darryl Griffis, Police Chief for the Kingsland Police Department.
