TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida residents who have been displaced from their homes because of damage caused by Tropical Storm Debby might be eligible for federal money to find a temporary place to live.

Residents living in a county designated for individual assistance may be eligible for rental assistance. After registering with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, residents may receive an initial two months of disaster aid.

FEMA cannot legally duplicate insurance benefits.

President Barack Obama declared a major disaster area for the state of Florida on July 3 as a result of the damage caused by Tropical Storm Debby that swept across the state in late June. Eight deaths were attributed to the storm, in addition to the flooding and wind damage in some parts of Florida.
