TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A 65-year-old Jacksonville man will receive $500 a week for life after winning a scratch-off prize from the Florida Lottery.
Michael Smith purchased a $3 Monopoly scratch-off ticket and won $5, according to a news release from the Florida Lottery. When the store clerk told Smith the Monopoly ticket was the last one, he bought two Lucky $500 a Week for Life tickets instead.
"The second ticket I scratched ended up being a top prize winner," said Smith. "I was lucky the store was out of the Monopoly tickets or I would not have tried this game and won this prize."
Smith elected to receive his winnings as a lump sum, one-time payment or $436,801.56.
Smith purchased his tickets at the Commonwealth BP, located at 6573 Commonwealth Avenue.
