JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating a case of employee theft after $12,000 worth of baby formula went missing from Baptist Medical Center Downtown between March and June.

The hospital's materials management supervisor advised an off-duty police officer on Wednesday that 80 cases of Nutramigen Baby Formula should have been delivered to various departments that care for children, according to a JSO police report.

No department showed orders to account for the high usage of formula from March to June and there is no record that the departments actually received the formula. Each department that uses the formula had budget and inventory discrepancies, which triggered the internal investigation.

The subject of the investigation, who has worked with Baptist since 2005, works the night shift, which is where the discrepancies have been happening, according to the police report.

The employee pulled the formula without orders and cannot account for where the formula went.
