Unknown suspect broke into Jacksonville cop car, took gun and bulletproof vest

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is searching for an unknown suspect who broke into an officer's assigned unmarked vehicle and took a loaded firearm and bullet proof vest.

The at-large suspect broke into the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe in the 10800 block of Coral Shores Drive sometime between Wednesday evening and early Thursday morning.

According to the police report, the suspect entered the vehicle by an unknown method. When the officer when to unlock the SUV on Thursday morning, the officer noticed that the glove compartment was open and a police traffic vest was out of place.

The officer said another resident had their vehicle burglarized, but that person did not call the police.

The unknown suspect is charged with burglary - armed/becomes armed with a dangerous weapon - and theft of $300 or greater, the police report stated.
