JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- State Attorney's Office investigators arrested a woman Tuesday afternoon charged with Grand Theft and Schemes to Defraud.

Karen McCormack West, 47, owns American Fence Company and was found to be taking money from victims upfront and not delivering to the fence that was ordered, according to a release from the SAO.

From October 2010 to September 2011, the company collected thousands of dollars from eight different families, according to her arrest warrant.

Victims would pay part of the fee for the fence upfront, and thought they would pay for the rest of the project when it was completed, the release said.

West and the company would cash the checks, but not finish the job. The company would give excuses and eventually, stopped returning customer calls.

Since the SAO began investigating West in April, eight victims have been identified.
