JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- In the aftermath of a crash that killed 11 people on Interstate 75 near Gainesville, Florida Rep. Keith Perry on Tuesday plans to announce a plan to have safety signs placed on I-75 and U.S. Highway 441.

Perry, a Gainesville Republican, will propose an amendment to a House transportation bill, his office said. A news conference is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the observation deck at the I-75 southbound rest stop overlooking Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park.

Few details of the announcement were released. Smoke from a brush fire at Paynes Prairie combined with fog to obscure drivers' vision, leading to the fiery crash that happened about 3:45 a.m. Jan. 29. At least 21 people were injured.
