JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- As people get ready for holiday shipping, some said the post office isn't their first choice.
"I don't need the post office," said Mike Cheatham, a customer at a UPS store in St. Johns County.
As Cheatham gets prepared for the holidays, he said one stop he won't be making will be at his local post office.
"I really couldn't expect them to compete with technology," he said. Cheatham is one of millions of Americans looking at options outside of the traditional post office.
Vana Brock owns a UPS store that offers both UPS and USPS services.
"If it's a small package, it's going to be the post office. If it's a larger package, it's most likely going to be UPS," Brock said.
Business is picking up for the holiday season, but she wonders how successful the USPS will be in proposing slower service.
"The customers want their packages to get there in a timely manner, and not knowing exactly when that's going to get there, I believe that's going to bother them," she said.
After recent USPS price hikes, customers will be watching closely this spring when the post office will decide on proposed cuts, leaving customers like Cheatham wondering if the USPS will get innovative to earn his business back for holiday seasons in the future.
"I don't see them in that kind of business," he said.
