Attempted robber tries to go in Merrill Road bank's exit

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office apprehended an attempted robbery suspect Monday after he tried to get into the bank through an exit door.

The robbery attempt happened at Fifth Third Bank, 9125 Merrill Road, around 4:30 p.m., according to JSO Officer Ron Scott.

A man wearing a bandana and a mask and apparently armed with a gun tried to get into the bank by going through a door that was locked.

After trying to get into the bank through a door that only an employee could open, he fled on a bicycle, Scott said.

A description of the suspect was released and police apprehended the man a short time later while he was traveling east down Merrill Road.

Police can't release the the name of the man yet, Scott said.
