3 arrested in brutal 2009 sexual assault

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Three suspects have been arrested in a brutal 2009 sexual assault that took place in the Five Points area of Riverside.

Stanley Armitage, 20; Martin King, 20; and Rakeem Mitchner, 24; have been charged with sexual battery and kidnapping, according to Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrest reports.

The initial attack took place on Oct. 9, 2009, when a female victim was knocked off of her bicycle and was sexually assaulted by three subjects. The woman's nose was broken during the attack, the incident report detailed.

Initially, no matching DNA was found in the CODIS database and the case went cold until December 2013, when the Florida Department of Law Enforcement found a match to Armitage. He was arrested and sentenced for an Oregon armed robbery, according to a case recap from JSO.

Armitage was then arrested on January 21, which led to the arrests of King on Feb. 3 and Mitchner on March 19. All three are awaiting trial in the Pre-Detention Facility.
