2 overnight shootings may be related

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- One person is dead after a reported shooting. The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says that incident appears to be connected to another act of violence on the city's north side.

The shooting was reported at approximately 10:20 p.m. Wednesday in the 4100 block of Lorenzo Court.

Sgt. Jay Farhat with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said officers found the body of a young man lying next to a driveway.

It's believed the victim was in his late teens or early 20's. His identity and cause of death have not been released yet.

Farhat said it's possible the man ran or was dropped off on Lorenzo after being shot in a different location.

Meanwhile, the sheriff's office is also investigating a reported shooting in the 6700 block of Cavalier Road.

Farhat said one person in that case suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

He said officers received a call about the incident around the same time they were responding to Lorenzo Ct.

The proximity of the scenes and the timing of the calls for service are reasons why officers believe the cases might be related.

"We're exploring that possibility right now. Chances are they may be (related)," Farhat told First Coast News.

So far, no arrests have been made in either case.

Farhat said no witnesses to the young man's death have come forward, but a silver pick-up truck was seen leaving the scene of the shooting on Cavalier.

However, Farhat could not say for sure if the truck was involved in the crime.
