2 rescued, 15 displaced after apartment fire in San Jose

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Two people were rescued and 15 people were displaced following an apartment fire that broke out Saturday in a San Jose neighborhood.

The Jacksonville Fire Rescue Department was called out to a second-alarm fire reported at Pinebrook Apartments at 7500 Powers Ave. around 11 a.m. JFRD said the fire broke out on the second floor of one section of the apartments, causing the portion of that building's roof to collapse. Roughly 50 firefighters responded to the scene.

JFRD said two people were rescued with non-life threatening injuries and 15 people have been displaced. The Red Cross is assisting them.

JFRD is now investigating.

The American Red Cross is helping 36 individuals that were impacted by this apartment fire. Red Cross volunteers are working with 23 adults and 13 children helping to address immediate emergency needs like shelter, clothing, food, medications and other essential supplies.
