13-year-old dies, 11-year-old critically injured in crash on I-95 and MLK Parkway

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A 13-year-old boy was killed and an 11-year-old boy was critically injured following a crash on Interstate 95 and Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway Wednesday.

Around 6:40 p.m., authorities responded to a call about an accident in the location. The Florida Highway Patrol said a red Chevy Monte Carlo was in the left turn lane of US-1 southbound and attempted to cross to the I-95 northbound ramp. During the attempt, the driver of the Monte Carlo pulled out in front of a black Jeep Cherokee.

The Jeep collided with the Chevy and both vehicles came to a stop on US-1 northbound, blocking the lane for four hours.

FHP said all occupants in the Chevy had to be transported to the hospital with serious injuries. One of the passengers, a 13-year-old boy, died at UF health due to his injuries. An 11-year-old boy is now suffering from critical injuries.

The occupants in the Jeep were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
