JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Tim and Ro Wilson are still reeling from a close call they say they had on Interstate 295 recently involving a shredded tire that smashed into their car.
"Loud bang, took the whole mirror," said Tim Wilson who is thankful his wife was not injured.
Moments before the tire tread hit the car knocking off the passenger mirror, Wilson said his wife had the window open with her arm resting on the door.
"I brought it in (arm) just rolled up the window, that's when it hit. That close," said Ro Wilson who says she escaped a close call.
The couple said a tire separated on an 18 wheeler with parts of the tire flying over another truck before hitting their car.
The Wilsons said they the tire hit reinforced how they handle trucks on the road.
"I don't like following trucks. I won't if I can help it," said Wilson who said the cost of replacing the mirror is more than his insurance deductible.
