Knife-wielding man attacks St. Augustine jogger

Jogger attacked

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- The St. Augustine Police Department says a woman was attacked while out jogging Tuesday evening.

The victim told police she was she was jogging in the Avista Circle neighborhood when an unknown man came up from behind and struck her on the head with a hard object. The woman said she began to fall but the suspect caught her.

According to the victim, the man grabbed her neck with one arm and used the other to cover her mouth. The victim told police the man stated in a low voice, "do not scream, or you will die!" The victim then said the man pulled out a knife with a 6-inch blade, the woman told police that she grabbed the blade with her hands.

According to police reports, the man eventually let her go and she ran off.

The man is described as 6 foot tall, weighing 220 pounds and muscular.

The victim also told police that just before being hit there was a dark colored, older model, possibly a medium size van or SUV, cargo style (no back windows) parked on the street. The vehicle started up as she passed by it.
