ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla -- A St. John’s county man is behind bars facing attempted murder charges after authorities say he seriously injured his ex-girlfriend.
According to police the 31-year-old woman was dropped off at the hospital by the man believed to have attacked her.
The woman's estranged husband spoke to First Coast News on Sunday. The man who did not want to show his face or use his name, says he received a phone call Friday afternoon he never hoped to hear. " [I] Immediately grabbed my stuff and ran out of there as fast as I could."
The phone call was from the sheriff’s office to inform him that his estranged wife was being rushed to the hospital Friday afternoon with life threatening injuries. He says he found out her ex-boyfriend, Steven Dobish, attacked the 31-year-old mother of two. "She was in the shower and he still had a key to the residence and he came in without being aware."
Dobish is now charged with attempted murder. The Saint John's County Sheriff's office says after the attack Dobish drove the woman to the hospital. Once there a witness took down his tag information and called police which lead to his arrest.
The victim is expected to recover but it was a close call her family says someone else can learn from. "If you don't say anything or come forward this is an example of a worst case and I don't want anyone to ever have to go through this."
Court records show that Dobish was out on bond at the time of the attack. He is back in jail held without bond.
