JACKSONVILLE, FL -- For many women, no matter how hard they try, they can't seem to get rid of cellulite.
There is now a new way in Jacksonville to reduce the appearance of those unsightly bumps and dimples without surgery. Endermologie has been big in Europe for years and is now becoming more popular in the United States.
Endermologie is like getting a deep tissue massage. A machine rolls over the body to break up the fat and smooth out the skin. Massage therapist Cheryl Wright at the Lorenz Clayman Day Spa describes the machine as a glorified vacuum cleaner. She says, "You're actually picking up that tissue, breaking it up and flushing it out."
The machine rolls, pulls, suctions, and massages parts of the body in the attempt to reduce the appearance of cellulite. A special suit is worn to keep the machine from pinching the skin.
Sheena Gardner of Jacksonville decided to give it a try after her second child. "Absolutely love it. Very smooth yes. Of course cellulite is hereditary so over time you've got to keep maintaining it."
She says it's worked for her. She's had 15 treatments so far. "I'm at the point where I do touch up. So, once a month is good enough."
Endermologie is not a quick fix for cellulite. It takes at least 12 treatments over a six week period and then the treatments must continue in order to maintain. Wright says, "If you don't have a six week block which you can put out to be here twice a week, don't bother starting it."
Plastic Surgeon Doctor Lorenz Clayman warns endermologie doesn't work on it's own. "You need to do other things to benefit from it. You have to exercise, step ups, lunges. You have to tone adjacent muscles."
You also need to drink lots of water.
Each session starts at around $60 a treatment and since endermologie only addresses the appearance of cellulite, if you don't maintain by continuing the treatments, it will all come right back.
Endermologie is the only FDA approved non-invasive technique for cellulite.
