COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Gayle Jones is almost 50 years old, and she runs 12 miles a day.

She's a busy mom with nine grandchildren and she's 170 pounds lighter than she was 10 years ago.

"I didn't notice the weight until I went to the doctor and tipped the scale. The scale couldn't weigh me it would only go up to 300 pounds.", Jones said.

Her road to weight loss started with a simple offer of help from her son who knew about her New Year's resolution.

"He said, 'You haven't started,' and I said, 'No, I haven't,' and he said, 'I'll be your coach.' At that moment, I recognized that I needed to do something to show him, whatever you put your mind to you can achieve."

Her curse of weight gain started with the blessing of pregnancy.

"With the twins, I think I gained about 120 pounds. After that, you know how we are as mothers. We don't want to leave anything on the plate, and I started eating whatever it was they left on their plate. And before I knew it, I was 320 pounds."

Jones says putting the weight on was easy--taking it off is a challenge. Maintaining the weight loss is a daily struggle that Jones will admit comes with hurdles.

"My weakness is ice cream, and I have yet to give that up."

Her final bit of advice for those of you in the battle of the bulge, "It doesnt take surgery. It takes a made-up mind that you want to do something you want to make a change and yes, you can do it."

Jones also credits a great deal of her success to working with Bertram Bailey of Bodies by Bert.
