MAYPORT, Fla. -- First Lady Michelle Obama will make a stop on the First Coast on August 22 when she visits Naval Station Mayport to visit with military families and announce new private sector commitments.
The First Lady will be at NS Mayport at 2 p.m. to announce a milestone reached by the Obama administration and Joining Forces with regard to the hiring of veterans and military spouses, according to a release from the First Lady's office.
Jill Biden and Mrs. Obama started Joining Forces to aid in President Obama's mission to have 100,000 military spouses and veterans hired or trained by the end of 2013.
They have done this through virtual and in-person job fairs, and through a partnership with 2,100 businesses, the release stated.
In April, Mrs. Obama announced that 50,000 people have been helped by the program so far. She also visited the First Coast in April to honor young women from military families.
