JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Today is the deadline to register to vote in the upcoming Florida Primary Election.

The main office for the Supervisor of Elections is located on East Monroe Street. It closes at 5:30 p.m.

Duval County Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland says he only expects about a 23 percent voter turnout for the Primary Election.

Florida is a closed Primary State, which means voters may only vote for candidates of the political party they've declared in their registration.

However, Holland says all voters can cast a ballot on nonpartisan and open primary offices such as Public Defender, School Board Members, Circuit and County Court Judges.

Holland says all voters will be getting new voter registration cards before the end of the month. The new card will indicate voters' new voting precincts.

The Primary Election is August 14. And if you miss today's deadline, you can still register for the November Presidential Election.
That deadline is October 9, 2012.
