NEWNAN, GA (AP) -- A man found guilty of making three pipe bombs for undercover officers was sentenced Friday to 25 years in federal prison. Jason South, 27, of Newnan, will not be eligible for parole, and his sentence from U.S. District Judge Jack T. Camp also includes three years of supervised release.

South pleaded guilty to the possession of a sawed-off shotgun, two counts of possession, manufacturing and transferring pipe bombs, and distribution of methamphetamine.

According to U.S. Attorney David Nahmias, South provided a sawed-off shotgun to an undercover ATF agent on Aug. 3, 2005. According to agents, South bragged that he could obtain other weapons and could build bombs.

About a week later, South was seen purchasing materials needed to make three pipe bombs at a local home improvement store. Nahmias said he made the three pipe bombs and delivered them to undercover agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

South also was charged with selling about 25 grams of methamphetamine to the agents.

"This defendant is being locked up for decades and is no longer a threat to public safety," Nahmias said. "The ATF agents who investigated this case should be commended for eliminating this threat."
