BRUNSWICK, GA -- A sex offender arrested Friday afternoon on unrelated charges has been named a suspect in the disappearance of a six-year-old boy. A $32,000 reward is being offered for the safe return of Christopher Michael Barrios, Jr.

The boy vanished last Thursday night near his home in the Canal Mobile Home Park just north of Brunswick. Investigators searched the sex offender's trailer Monday night and found an item of significance, but investigators would not say what. Search teams plan to narrow their focus on a field and canal near the mobile home park.

Police say the sex offender told authorities that's where the boy is. Authorities also charged the sex offender's mother, Peggy Edenfield, with obstruction of an officer for giving several different stories to investigators. Police arrested the sex offender last Friday for failing to register a new address. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Monday issued a Levi's Call, Georgia's version of an Amber Alert.

Investigators now believe Christopher has been abducted. GBI spokesman John Bankhead said Levi's Calls are mostly used for confirmed abductions but "given the scenario, we felt it was best to go ahead and issue one." Authorities expanded the investigation over the weekend to include checking Dumpsters, motels, dirt roads, wells and any other site where the boy could be found. Doering said officers have spoken with family members and friends, but the interviews have turned up little helpful information.
