TRENTON, Ga. (AP) -- Georgia authorities say an 86-year-old hang glider from Battle Creek, Mich., has died after hitting a tree as he tried to land. Dade County Sheriff's Sgt. Matt Cole says Jonas Blanton was attempting to land in a field about 4 p.m. Sunday when he hit the tree. Cole says the man was killed instantly. Cole says Blanton was a veteran hang glider. Cole says the flight was part of his annual hang-gliding trip to Tennessee and that the man had completed a tandem flight earlier in the day.
