LEXINGTON, GA (AP) -- Authorities in Oglethorpe County have charged a young woman with murder after the remains of her newborn son were found buried in a shallow grave behind her home.
Oglethorpe County Sheriff Mike Smith says 17-year-old Tiffany Nicole Mack Wilson has admitted she gave birth to a boy about a month ago and that the infant was alive when she left him on the back porch of her home near Winterville and went to school.
Smith says the child was dead when she returned home, so she buried him the backyard. Smith says Wilson's father discovered the infant's grave Sunday when he checked to see why birds were flocking behind the house.
Georgia Bureau of Investigation special agent in charge Mike Ayers says authorities had not yet determined the exact date of the child's birth and death. The boy has been taken to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy.
