CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- Authorities have identified the people who died when a semitrailer smashed into a concrete support pillar on Interstate 75 as three Georgia men.
Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright says a northbound semi driven by George Benjamin White of Hiram struck a guardrail, then the support pillar and caught fire early Wednesday morning in Bartow County.
Wright tells The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the sign fell onto the southbound lanes and was struck by a southbound semi driven by 58-year-old Hugh Bruce Duling III of Powder Springs.
Both truck drivers died, along with White's passenger, 36-year-old Jermaine Duriel Smith of Douglasville.
