COVINGTON, Ga. -- Authorities are investigating the death of a Covington woman who died after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing a street in Covington.
The woman was identified as 57-year-old Benita O'Neal Marks, who was killed as she attempted to cross Georgia Highway 36 at Lassiter Street shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday.
Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright says a 2007 Ford F150 driven by a Covington man was heading south when Marks was struck. Marks died at the scene.
The Covington News reports that no charges have been filed in the crash, which remains under investigation by the state patrol.
Covington is about 35 miles southeast of Atlanta.
