ATLANTA -- A sheriff's deputy will soon formally join the board of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice.

Commissioner L. Gale Bucker will confirm the appointment of John Edwards of Claxton at the board's next meeting. Edwards was appointed by Republican Gov. Nathan Deal.

Edwards is currently the chief deputy of the Evans County Sheriff's office. He formerly worked as a special agent-in-charge for the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

The board is composed of 15 members representing each Congressional district in the state. Edwards will represent the 12th District.
