McDONOUGH, Ga. -- Severe weather in McDonough has injured one person and overturned semi-trailers at a Briggs & Stratton plant.

Police spokeswoman Sabrina Puckett said high winds overturned or damaged seven or eight semi-trailers at the plant on U.S. 42. One person was trapped and had to be freed. She said the victim's injuries were not life threatening.

The winds also downed trees and utility lines. She said Henry County firefighters were busy responding to at least 10 lightning strikes, some of which caused fires that were quickly extinguished.

McDonough is about 30 miles southeast of Atlanta.

Elsewhere in Georgia, heavy rains closed some lanes of Interstate 75/85 in Atlanta Tuesday afternoon, and firefighters in Columbus said lightning apparently started a fire that gutted a house.
