ATLANTA -- After more than five years of anticipation, organizers are breaking ground on the Center for Civil and Human Rights in downtown Atlanta.
The museum will join other popular tourist attractions such as the Georgia Aquarium and the World of Coca-Cola. It is expected to serve as a hub for speakers and artists who work on issues of human rights. Centerpieces include The Morehouse College Martin Luther King Jr. Collection and the award-winning "Without Sanctuary" lynching exhibit.
The project has stalled in recent years as fundraising has stagnated in the down economy, but organizers now say the center plans to open in mid-2014.
