BRUNSWICK, Ga. -- Shrimpers say the first six days of the official season has been disappointing.

The Brunswick News reports that since the season opened May 30 in state water, most shrimpers haven't seen big hauls. Jim Page, biologist with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources says Tropical Storm Beryl late last month bears much of the blame because of the turbulent seas caused by the system.

The season only applies to the waters three miles offshore. Page said the best shrimp, the large white ones, are in federal waters further out.

Page said hauls should start to pick up soon.
