DECATUR, Ga. -- An outside review says taxpayers in a metro Atlanta county are paying for a top-heavy public school system that could stand to shed more than 300 administrators.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the audit of management positions in DeKalb County Schools was commissioned by new Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson as she develops a new organizational structure for the 15,000-employee district.
The report released Wednesday said DeKalb has 1,499 employees in the central office. The consultant who did the report says that's too many for a system its size.
Virginia-based Management Advisory Group recommends that DeKalb trim down to 1,162 administrative positions.
The review also found confusion about who does what and how much they should be paid. Atkinson says job titles and job descriptions need to be revamped.
