
FLORIDA -- A restaurant birthday club website has named Florida the strangest state after comparing 2,000 Associated Press 'strange news' stories.
Tableseed.com has awarded Florida the 'Strangest State Award.' The site gathered strange news stories from the past year based on location. They then counted the total number of stories in each state, adjusting for population.
According to Tableseed.com, the three strangest cities in the U.S. over the past year were New York City, New York; Lincoln, Nebraska; and Madison, Wisconsin.
According to Tableseed.com, here are a few of the strangest stories out of Florida:
- "Man calls 911 after eatery runs out of lemonade," Boyton Beach
- "Florida lotto winner seeks to open a nude dude ranch," Brooksville
- "Dead shark left in Miami street after failed sale," Miami
- "Man wearing sleeping bag as cape attempts robbery," Gainesville
- "Man allegedly flings jellyfish at teens at beach," Madeira Beach
New York City was named the strangest city with stories like: "Businessman accused of demanding dentures with gun," and "Goat wanders into nursing home in the Bronx."
Tableseed.com also lists states in order of 'strangeness,' and the 75 strangest cities.
