TALLAHASSEE, FL (AP) -- A state commission is scheduled to vote on whether Florida should require tough emissions standards for new cars sold in the state.

Gov. Charlie Crist wants Florida to adopt the California rules as a way of lowering greenhouse gases, which are blamed for global warming.

The Environmental Regulation Commission postponed a vote last month and will now consider the new rules on Tuesday. Auto manufacturers oppose the standards, saying they will drive up vehicle costs and make some light trucks unavailable in Florida.
