LAKELAND, Florida (AP) - Authorities say a man's death at a central Florida shooting range remains under investigation.
Polk County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Carrie Eleazer retracted on
Tuesday information she had released to The Ledger, according to WTSP. She said had
mistakenly released incorrect information indicating that an autopsy had
concluded that Larry Simpson died Sunday of an accidental,
self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Eleazer said the autopsy was complete but the cause of death remained under investigation.
The 71-year-old Clermont man was shot in the chest at the Tenoroc Shooting Sports and Training range in Lakeland. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say Simpson was shooting clays with Jaime Gonzalez of Orlando. Gonzalez told detectives that he heard a shot directly behind him, and he turned to find Simpson wounded with his gun lying beside him.
