A student pilot was also on board the small plane and there were no injuries reported by the FHP.
Desouza made his first distress call at 6:41 p.m. Wednesday to the Jacksonville Regional Communications Center as he was flying over Palm Coast.
Crash scene investigators have not disclosed what types of issues forced Desouza to land the plane.
