FORT MYERS, FL (NBC NEWS) -- After an afternoon manhunt and a brief school lockdown, police have found their suspect near Bavaria and Treeline roads. The man was arrested for fleeing from troopers and more changes may be filed as the investigation proceeds.
The Florida Highway Patrol initially stopped a suspect, who was walking along I-75 at the 134 mile marker in Lee County. Upon speaking with the suspect to complete a routine wants and warrant check, the trooper obtained a firearm from the subject.
At that point, the subject ran across all lanes of I-75 in an eastbound direction and entered a wooded area located to the east of the interstate.
A multi-agency perimeter was set up from Colonial Boulevard to Daniels Parkway and from Treeline Boulevard to Northbound I-75. Treeline Elementary school was always placed on lockdown during the initial stages of the search, it has since been lifted.
I-75 in both directions remained open during the search, but there were traffic delays in the area related to the police activity.
The subject is a 25-year-old black male.
