MIAMI -- A Latvian man sought as a fugitive in a South Beach fraud scam involving so-called "B-Girls" and male tourists has been arrested.

The FBI says 45-year-old Alec Simchuk of Riga, Latvia, was taken into custody Thursday after arriving at Miami International Airport. Simchuk was expected to appear in Miami federal court Friday. It was not clear if Simchuk had a lawyer.

Prosecutors say Simchuk was a leader in a scam in which women imported from Russia and Eastern Europe would lure male tourists to supposedly exclusive clubs and ply them with alcoholic drinks. The men were charged exorbitant amounts, in some cases tens of thousands of dollars.

Many of those charged have pleaded guilty and some are awaiting trial on various fraud charges. Simchuk was declared a fugitive in June.
