PANAMA CITY, Fla. -- Authorities say an inmate who walked away from a state work release center in Florida's Panhandle has been captured.

According to authorities, Allen Abel escaped from the Bay County center June 4.

Panama City police tell The News Herald that Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office deputies received a call Thursday about a suspicious person. Police say Abel was found sleeping in a tent and taken into custody on a warrant charging him with escape.

Abel was sentenced to prison in 2006 for multiple counts of burglary. He had been scheduled for release in May 2013.

The work release center run by Florida's Department of Corrections houses inmates who have a short time left on their sentences.
