FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Authorities say a man and woman face child neglect charges after they were found with a toddler whose burned right hand was missing one finger and had two more "partial" fingers.
The Department of Children and Families had custody of the 2-year-old girl on Thursday. Officials say 22-year-old Irma Mastamu and 29-year-old Kenneth Chavelier are each being held at the Broward County Jail on $50,000 bail.
The Miami Herald reports police found the girl with her right hand wrapped in a cloth after receiving a tip. The woman told police the child was injured when hot soup spilled onto her hand.
Police say a doctor treated the child Tuesday and confirmed the injury was caused by abuse.
Jail records didn't list an attorney for Mastamu or Chavelier.
