Governor Rick Scott will give his State of the State address today.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Gov. Rick Scott has suspended Osceola County's clerk of courts after his arrest on assault and battery charges.
Scott signed the suspension order Monday.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents Friday served a summons on Court Clerk Malcolm Thompson.
He is accused of shoving an administrative assistant on Dec. 29, after the woman objected to his directive that she take down a display of Christmas cards.
Thompson also allegedly threatened his human resources director at a subsequent meeting to discuss the Christmas card incident.
The clerk's staff lawyer said Thompson would have no immediate comment.
An FDLE report says Thompson acknowledged to agents he had pushed the woman but told them it was all a joke.
He also denied his comments at the staff meeting were threatening.
