Teacher of the Week Kathy Poe
Fletcher Middle School
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- She's been teaching science for nearly 40 years and her students think she's amazing. Kathy Poe from Fletcher Middle School is our Teacher of the Week.
Whether she's one on one with a student or in front of the classroom, Mrs. Poe is reaching her students, teaching them about science in all sorts of creative ways.
"She teaches in a fun way; like we did a CSI lab from the TV show and I had to explain what happened when you crack a glow stick and why it glows," said 7th grader Hunter Krombholz.
Hunter nominated Mrs. Poe for Teacher of the Week. He said one time when he was out sick, she had him bake cookies. "(She wanted me to see) the chemical reaction when you bake them together," said Hunter.
Poe likes to move around her classroom. She rarely sits down or stands still and she likes to get her students involved in discussions. "I'm not a book teacher. I'm a person that likes to get these kids out to do some cool things," said Poe.
All those cool things are leaving a lasting impression on students, many of whom never knew science could be so cool and so much fun. "Science should be about exploring, and as long as I'm exploring with them, we have a great time," said Poe.
