JACKSONVILLE, FL -- A 6th grader at Darnell Cookman Middle School just returned from Tallahassee where she spent the week working as a page for the House of Representatives and she's our Student of the Week.

Elayna Darby, 12, is enjoying her spring break now but last week, she was busy at work on the floor of the House of Representatives. "I wanted to see how it worked every day and see how they run the government," said Darby.

She was one of only two students in Jacksonville who got to take part in a week long program during session that allows students to learn about legislative process and the history of Florida.

Not only did she learn how laws are made, but she also got the chance to meet some very important people, like Governor Charlie Crist. "I told him I was page and he said that was really awesome," said Darby.

She also met State Representative and Duval Delegation Chair Jennifer Carroll who was Darby's sponsor for the program.

Darby is star student at Darnell Cookman. She's on the A B Honor Roll and she's setting her sights on politics. "It's actually really cool. It's how they make laws for the state."

Darby is hoping she can return to the week long program in Tallahassee again next year.
