ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. -- In a class filled with all kinds of personalities and perspectives, here's one student who stands out in her 5th grade class.
"No one's perfect," fifth-grader Kelly Cockerham admits, "but a lot of time i think i can be found doing what I'm supposed to be doing in the halls and trying to be a leader wherever I am."
Kelly's teacher at Liberty Pines Academy nominated her for Student of the Week (April 6, 2012), and not just because Kelly's a straight-A student.
Kelly Cockerham IS a leader, during and outside class.
"She's also great at helping out her classmates," teacher Elizabeth Cooper tells us, "and often she does this without being asked."
The best part is that Kelly's leadership qualities come 2nd to helping "the team"; be it mentoring classmates, playing volleyball, or working the school's safety patrol.
No matter what the challenge, Kelly tries her best to be proactive.
"Being proactive," Kelly says matter-of-factly, "means doing what you're supposed to the first time and having a good attitude."
She sure does!
