By CNN LOS ANGELES -- Benjamin Brown isn't your average college student. For starters, he's the youngest freshman on campus at age 13.
Brown makes his way to his first day of classes at the University of California at Santa Barbara. "I'm taking a chemistry course, a biology course, a history of ancient religions course, and two freshmen seminars--the beauty of mathematics and neurogenesis in the adult brain" says the 13 year old.
Brown is not your typical college student but his advisor knew that when he helped the then 12 year old get into the program. Brown talked at one, read proficiently at age four, he was homeschooled until attending a charter high school at age 10.
Now it's college time, but at age 13 that means no dorm life and no parties like many other freshmen will enjoy.
"Some of that stuff my parents will probably be glad that I'm missing out on...there are a lot of other places to have a social life than just school" Brown says.
At age 13, Brown is the youngest student to ever attend the university since 1944. But he says he doesn't feel any smarter than any other 13 year old.
