JU partners with Children of Fallen Patriots

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville University is teaming up with the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation to make college possible for children who lost a parent in military service.

JU is the first university in the country to offer scholarship assistance to support the Jacksonville Beach foundation that so far has helped 400 young people attend college.

The private university is offering is a 40 percent scholarship that translates into $15,000 annually. The partial scholarship would complement assistance given by the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation.

It's estimated 15,000 young people qualify nationwide by having lost a parent in military service either in combat or training related deaths.

"We hope a lot of universities would look at this sort of thing and say how can we help serve those who gave the ultimate price to our country," said Jacksonville University President Tim Cost.

JU says the first year it plans to award 15 partial scholarships as result of this new partnership.
